The "Giant Fighters"

Lego Competition
December 3, 2011

THANK YOU, MISS CONCANNON, FOR YOUR COMMITMENT TO OUR STUDENTS AND YOUR GENEROSITY TO THEM.
WE ARE SO GRATEFUL TO YOU!

WOW! Our SAS Lego Robotics team, the “Giant Fighters,” comprised of Thomas DeMatteo (Gr. 4), Dylan Raimondi, Alex Masferrer,
Patrick Senier, Danny Fallon, Daniel Murphy, John Costello, Colman Gillis, Reese Mullen (Gr. 5), and sixth-grader, Patrick Sullivan,
competed against Lego teams from over 40 schools at North Quincy High School on Saturday. It was the end of a journey that began last year when we initiated our SAS Robotics Club. Since that time, under the direction of their Grade 4 Science teacher, Miss Jennifer Concannon, these students have remained after school each week, to design and produce a motorized robot made from a kit provided by Legos®. As their parents, teachers and I, who were present, can attest, it was an intense day in a highly competitive atmosphere. After each match, our students were required to reconfigure their robot to compete in the next activity. But, despite this intensity, and even though it was their first competition, our students remained focused and maintained their team spirit throughout the six hours of matches. We can all be very proud to have been represented by such wonderful teacher and students and look forward with them to next year’s competition.
