Grade 2 Garden |
Julie Callahan Memorial Garden |
May 17, 2013 |
On Friday, May 17th, Mrs. Occhialini’s 2nd grade class spent the day outside redesigning and planting the Julie Callahan Memorial Garden at the front entrance of the school. This project was inspired by a classroom discussion about community service. The class had been saving money in their classroom piggy bank that was given to them by Ms. Money after a school assembly that taught the kids about saving and spending. The class decided that they wanted to use their savings towards something special for the school community. It wasn’t until our Earth Day lesson when the students of 2B decided that they wanted to use the money to plant a garden! Along with the gracious support of Mrs. Simmons, and VERY generous donations of plants and time from the parents of 2B, the garden came to life! Now all of SAS can watch as this beautiful space grows year after year! |
