Grade 7: Life Science

St
Agatha Middle School Science Curriculum
The focus
of science education at St Agatha middle school is
centered on the premise that actively involves students
with inquiry based, hands-on experiments so as to “cultivate
a positive attitude toward science and learning in
general.” The core of the curriculum is centered
on the Earth, the Biological and the Physical sciences. |
Seventh grade science provides a hands-on
introduction to the life sciences. Topical coverage draws
from core biological themes that may include pre-chemistry,
energy, life structure and function, heredity and change,
classification of simple organisms, plants, and animals,
ecology and various body systems. It is a course designed
to develop basic lab skills including safety practices,
measurement skills (involving precision and accuracy
with the use of common lab ware), science process skills
of observation, data management and analysis (including
the quantitative treatment of data collection and analysis,
graphing, and modeling), concluding and formal reporting.
Through a guided research process, students develop an
independent investigation that is exhibited and judged
at the annual St Agatha Science Fair.
